Power Electrical Engineer
--Baltimore County, Maryland--
Power Electronics / Electrical Engineers will be involved in:
● Design and testing of SiC-based power electronic converter topologies including active rectifiers, isolated DC-DC converters, solid-state-transformers, and high-speed motor drives
● Design and test DSP-based digital control algorithms, FPGA modulators, and PLC-based high-level system controllers
● Detailed PCB designs including SiC gate drivers, system control PCBs, and support hardware
● Design and test low (1.2 - 1.7 kV) and medium voltage (3.3 – 10 kV) SiC semiconductor modules
● Design embedded control algorithms, harmonic compensators, software PLLs, and other embedded algorithms
● Develop Controller-Hardware-in-the-Loop test setups, control cards, and control algorithms
● Experience with medium voltage power distribution, solid-state-transformers, and printed
circuit board design experience highly desirable
Minimum Requirements:
● United States Citizenship required due to US Government ITAR program restrictions
● BS in electrical engineering, computer science, or related major required, with a minimum
3.3 GPA, MS and PhDs a plus
● Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance
The following experience is not required, but highly desirable:
● Designing and/or controlling motor drives, AC-DC, and DC-AC converters
● High-speed communications development with high-performance FPGAs
● Experience programming various microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs.
● Direct work with TI C2000 DSPs and Altera FPGAs
● Hands-on experience with OPAL-RT, Typhoon, PLECS RT Box or other HIL platforms
Immediate Requirements/Projects include:
● High Power SiC and Silicon power device design into converters/inverters
● EMI/EMC MIL 461 Compliance and other MIL spec design requirements
● Multiple parallel/series connected bi-directional galvanically isolated AC/DC, DC/DC
converters
● 13.8 kV and 4160V grid interface power converters
● MV Isolated DC-DC converters
● Power levels 50kW to 500kW converters that are linked together for higher power levels up
in MWs
● Navy (surface & sub), Army vehicles and infrastructure, Aircraft
Compensation: Entry Level 2-8 years: $80k-$110k
